* accepting diversity, being non-judgmental and constantly encouraging clients in all dimensions of their lives, believing that people should as much as possible be in control of decisions which affect their own healthcare
* delivering quality counselling processes that respond to the evolving current and future needs of our clients and the community,
* providing services which are based on well-established clinical practice ensuring positive experiences for clients, and provided in a timely manner

* establishing a starting point with each client that is based on their strengths as individuals, and
* providing an environment that is safe and which respects the client’s right to privacy and confidentiality
There will be times when your counsellor may need to take some of the issues to Supervision. This is both an acceptable and required process which ensures that the counsellor is counselling in a way that is safe and beneficial to their clients as required by their Professional Code. Your identity will not be revealed, and all precautions will be taken to protect your privacy.
The only circumstance where the counsellor is obliged to breach confidentiality is if you have indicated that there is a risk of harm to yourself or someone else. We are ethically required to seek advice and guidance from other professionals.
Some examples include:
* When a client is in an abusive situation
* When a client is abusing someone else
* When a client is reported as being missing
* When the counsellor is aware of, or is told of, criminal activity which has not been reported to appropriate authorities, or
* When required by a court of law – for example being when the client’s records have been requested for court proceedings
Crisis counselling service is not provided and all clients are requested to report suicidal impulses to their general practitioner or other medical treatment provider.
How counselling can help you?
Counselling is not giving advice. Rather, counselling is a process in which regular discussions and sharing of thoughts, fears or feelings with a trained counsellor can help you to understand and resolve what is troubling you– whether it comes from circumstances, other people or yourself. It can therefore assist you to make choices, decisions or changes which could enable you to lead your life more fully.
At iWOMAN INTERNATIONAL® we believe the basis of all counselling is objective and supportive listening and respect for the client as an individual. Processing things previously put aside by the pressures of everyday life can be difficult, but the opportunity to explore your feelings in a private, confidential and non-judgmental atmosphere can be a relief in itself. Counselling provides an opportunity to gain new perspectives and can encourage a greater dimension of wellbeing.
